Symposium and Roundtable Proceedings

Communicore periodically convenes symposia, expert panels and roundtables as well as meetings of various Communicore-initiated Consortia and Task Forces that are designed to explore the causes of, and propose solutions for, significant healthcare technology issues. Either uni- or multiconstituency in nature, these groups are comprised of clinicians, health educators, risk managers, healthcare administrators, physician insurers, private and public policy makers, patient advocates, medicolegal experts, legislators, regulators, and other professionals. Proceedings of some of the gatherings are below:

Adverse Events During Infusion Therapy

Frontiers in Sterilization Practice

Future of Low-Temperature Sterilization Technology in Healthcare

Hypoxemia on the General Care Floor

International Task Force on Anaesthesia Safety
Euro;ean Journal of Anaesthesiology

Lasers in Ophthalmology: Clinical Applications

Managing Risk in Infusion Therapy

Meeting Proceedings: Expert Panel on Issues Surrounding the
Use of the LANDMARK Midline Catheter

Ocular Allergy: Epidemiology, Diagnosis and Treatment

Adverse Events During Infusion Therapy

Edited proceedings from a multiconstituency symposium on the importance of accurate diagnosis and reporting of adverse events associated with the provision of infusion therapy, especially the misinterpretation of common physiologic responses to the initiation and use of infusion therapy as allergic and anaphylactic reactions. 1993, 33 pp.

Frontiers in Sterilization Practice

Edited proceedings of a two-day international multiconstituency symposium on the clinical, environmental safety, economic and public policy issues surrounding the future of low-temperature sterilization technology. Through formal presentations, panel discussions and audience participation, the responsibilities, roles and perspectives of physicians, surgeons, pharmacists, scientists, engineers, economists, hospital administrators, legal experts, and healthcare policymakers were explored in front of a large multinational audience by experts from eight countries. 1996, 155 pp.

Future of Low-Temperature Sterilization Technology in Healthcare

Edited proceedings of a multiconstituency roundtable discussion concerning the emerging role of low-temperature gas plasma sterilization from the perspective of institutions and public policy makers. Participants reviewed the technology of low-temperature sterilization and discussed clinical, healthcare facility management and public policy issues that influence the selection of new sterilization technologies. 1995, 26 pp.

Hypoxemia on the General Care Floor

Edited proceedings of a roundtable discussion among an international group of research and practicing anesthesiologists and surgeons concerning the potential morbidity associated with undetected hypoxemia on the hospital general care floor. New research findings suggesting that continuous monitoring for hypoxemia may play a significant role in avoiding relatively well recognized morbidity in postoperative and other patients at risk on the general care floor. 1993, 16 pp.

Managing Risk in Infusion Therapy

Edited proceedings of a meeting of the multiconstituency Consortium on Infusion Management Safety to address issues of increasing concern in the safety of infusion therapy. Topics emphasized included the need to improve clinical competency by complementing experience with better formal training, the importance of including fail-safe designs in infusion devices to preclude inadvertent clinical disasters, and the risk management implications for patient and healthcare institutions. 1994, 23 pp.
